Sportsbook

A sportsbook is the business that accepts bets on sporting events, publishing odds for each outcome and paying out winning tickets at those odds.

Odds encode both an implied probability and the book's margin. Add the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market and the total exceeds 100%; that excess is the margin, and it is how the book expects to profit regardless of the result.

Pre-match betting is settled before the event starts. In-play betting continues during the event with odds recalculated continuously from the live feed, which demands low latency and strict controls on late bets.

For an operator, a sportsbook API must supply the odds feed, accept and validate tickets, settle them against official results, and push every stake and payout through the same wallet channel as casino rounds so reporting stays unified.

  • Pre-match: markets priced and settled around the event
  • In-play: continuously repriced from the live feed
  • Margin: the amount implied probabilities exceed 100%
  • Settlement: official result applied to open tickets automatically

Frequently asked questions

How does a sportsbook make money?

By building a margin into the odds, so the implied probabilities of all outcomes sum above 100%, and by balancing exposure across a large volume of bets.

Do sports tickets settle in the same wallet as casino rounds?

With AS Tech API, yes. Sports stakes and payouts use the same signed wallet channel and the same ledger as casino games.
